The game starts by having the player assume command of one of two submarines. The USS Indianapolis and the USS Houston are sent to investigate a mysterious, but possibly dangerous, new German U-boat. Once the player arrives at the location, they begin by laying mines to try and destroy the U-boat while the others search for clues that lead to its location. Meanwhile, the player must watch over the submarine crews and ensure that the necessary fuel is replenished before the mission is completed. Once all the elements are in place, the player can expect to see the submarine return to the area after delivering the necessary results.

As a submarine simulation, Silent Hunter 5 allows players to use various tools that they normally wouldn’t afford in their real-life experiences, such as the depth gauge, the fire control system, and a complete set of weapons. The submarine is also capable of changing course and moving through different water depths. The only aspect missing is the submarine’s ability to stop. However, most of the simulation takes place in the open sea, which is the actual environment of a submarine.

The design of Silent Hunter 5 is also unique to this game. More than that, the game features an assortment of maps that the player must explore to complete their objectives. Furthermore, this includes a mission map, which depicts the entire mission map, a mission objective, a route, and a map marker. That marks enemy ships’ locations and their hiding places. The graphics are also quite impressive in Silent Hunter. However, most scenes are well detailed and display a great deal of detail. Real submarine operators do the actual action and the submarine’s realistic noise level is also quite impressive.
